Murray Rule's initial formal art training began at the South Australian School of Art followed by a year at the Accademia in Florence.
On his return to Australia he then worked widely at a senior level in the advertising industry as artist, graphic designer, art director and creative director for national agencies.
For ten years he was the principal of his own graphic design studio. Recently he began studies at the Adelaide Central School of Art, variously under Anna Platten, Rod Taylor, Daryl Austin, Christopher Orchard and Rob Gutteridge.
His main interest is in narrative painting in a tonal realist style with some works incorporating abstract and gestural glazes. He has also been exploring the ancient medium of pigmented wax, known as encaustic painting.
