My first important exhibitions came when I was 26 - that was 40 years ago. Over the years I have investigated the medium of photography in many diverse ways. My current landscape work, influenced in part by a love of 19th century landscape photography, is a return to my northern California roots, the large format camera and the fine print.
When I retired from around 30 years of teaching in both the US and Australia I decided to take the road less travelled and to produce work more from the heart than fashion. At my age the saying ‘dust to dust’ has a deeper meaning. Using the large camera is slow and meditative and it demands a negotiation between being and doing – being fully present and manifesting a meaningful visual response.
