It is a photographer’s work to pay attention to their surroundings (landscapes) and their neighbours (portraits).
Over the years I have worked all along the Heysen Trail but I find that I have favourite sites that I visit time and time again, from the Coorong not a million miles from the southern end of the trail to the Flinders Ranges at the northern end.
For this project I chose works from sites I have visited many times. From the “grand” view of “In the Land of Oratunga, Patawarta Hill 2007” (after Hans Heysen) to the more intimate “From Greenhill Rd. 1989”.
Every project is an opportunity to do new work and for some time I have been interested in the very immediate landscape just underfoot, I thought there might be a “world” in a square meter.
On the Heysen Trail map, I found Land’s End, near Cape Jervis and Worlds End, just south of Burra. I photographed a square meter of ground, as carefully, as I could and than made life size prints.
One has rocks, water, kelp and shells, the other rocks, dust, leaves and shells. I enjoyed the differences and connections.
