Pamela Kouwenhoven is a South Australian visual artist who has consistently built on her practice of using unlikely discarded materials to construct assemblages, sculptural works and installations. Her current work utilises malthoid, a bituminous based waterproofing material scraped from the bottom of disused corrugated iron water tanks. These works expose an underlying environmental message concerning water usage and our interaction with the dry landscape of Australia.
Kouwenhoven is represented in the State Gallery of South Australia as well as Regional South Australian and interstate galleries. She has exhibited widely, winning many awards and prizes.
In 2010 Kouwenhoven will participate in a major exhibition of South Australian artists titled “Intangibles en terra Australis” in San Sebastian, Spain, as well as exhibiting at the Flinders University Gallery in Adelaide during SALA Festival in July.
